DVD
DVD or Digital Video Disc are what is known as optical discs, they are the same size as CDs, but can do much more, and different things. DVDs can also be two sided, unlike the one sided CDs. They take much more information than is held on a VHS tape, and digitize it so that much more can fit on a DVD.

DVDs just dont play themselves, you need to find something that will convert that data to something that is able to be watched. Compared to VCRs, DVD players are about the same in size, but the interface on DVD players are much better and easier to use.

The DVDs themselves are also unique, even though they look like cds. They hold soo much information on a disc its digitization at its best.

DVD Features.
DVD discs hold from 4 to 28 times more data than CDs. DVDs use what is called MPEG-2 compression and that equals to aprox. 133 min of laser-disc quality.
DVDs also contain many different visual features. Some discs come in widescreen, some come in full screen, and some give you a choice. There are also behind the scenes features, trailers to the movie, cast and crew bios, and sometime deleted and alternate scenes.
In the audio department, DVDs contain many different audio tracks. Some DVDs you can change the language of the film. You have a choice between what type of surround sound to listen to. And some also have a choice where you can listen to the director and sometimes some of the actors give commentary throughout the movie.

UPDATE! With the advancements in digitization going in full speed, DVDs that will be able to record video, like VCRs, will soon be available to consumers to buy. This means another advancement that can make VCRs more obsolete and DVDs more and more popular.
